Tools you will need

The Combination Moisture/pH/light meter is your best friend! The increased yield will easily pay the measley twenty bucks or so that these will cost you, and will probably save your plants from living a stressed and miserable existance leading to early/late flowering, or hermies from over/under watering or oxygen deprivation and dessication and EVEN dreaded OVER-FERTILIZING.
You can switch between moisture, pH, and Light meters to get the right combination using only one instrument. Just poke it into the soil, and read the meter as you check the top, middle, and bottom levels, and adjust water, pH and light levels accordingly.
Another necessary sleuthing instrument useful for detecting nutrient problems with your plants, telling whether they are M or F, and finding bugs that will happily munch their way through your crop, especially (phee-eeww, yuck!) SPIDER MITES! They are enough to make me want to KILL, KILL, KILL, KILL... oh... uh, sorry.... and they bring out that instinct in the gentlest souls, but you can't find them if you can't see them! During harvest and the weeks preceding it, you'll even use it to check for bud ripeness.

I like six-inch square pots, you can fit eight of them into one of those dome-trays you get at the garden centers.

The black ones won't encourage algae to grow in the tray, due to lack of light reflection. You can actually make a simple hydro-setup by using Perlite in the pots, and setting them in the solution filled tray.

Just refresh the solution often, and have a drain-cock on the side to prevent overfilling the tray.

I got this little beauty at a garage sale, and I think it cost me 50 cents or a quarter.

I like the long spout which is nearly horizontal for a gentle pour. This one only holds about a quart, (litre) which is easier to handle, but runs out faster.

This is a regular fish tank air pump, just bubble it in the water reservoir (or watering can if you have a big one) and it adds extra oxygen to the water. This helps keep down algae, and the added 02  will make your cannabis plants grow like the weeds they are reputed to be.
